A common BMW issue with the E90 E92 E93 M3 s65 is the Throttle Actuators failing. These throttle actuators are also found in the E60 M5 and e63/64 M6. Typical symptoms are reduced power and engine light on, limp home mode, followed by several failures including: Dynamic Stability Control (DSC/DTC) Run Flat Tyre (FTM) and drivetrain malfunction warning messages.
Being a BMW specialist, we see this issue often and it is an easy fix. Most of the time it is an internal fault to the throttle actuators. Particularly, these engines have motorsport derived individual throttle bodies per each cylinder and have a throttle body actuator that opens and closes the throttle butterflies depending on throttle position.
There are two throttle actuators in total and one per cylinder bank. Common issue we see in Australia is internal electronics, especially the position sensor wearing due to heat cycles as well as the circuit board itself. Someties also the electric motor movement becomes notchy and loses free movement resulting in faulty operation.
